THE THREE STEPS IN LOW VISION REHABILITATION

THE THREE STEPS IN LOW VISION REHABILITATION
Our main goal is to benefit visually impaired people and try to make their lives more independent by improving the quality of their vision.

Our mission is to try to ensure that people with low vision who visit our consultation center receive such tools and instructions for their use that contribute to optimal use of their residual vision, which will lead to an improvement in the quality of their daily life and independence.

To achieve this it is necessary to go through 3 mandatory steps:

  • Preliminary full-time examination by an ophthalmologist - Detailed eye examination, including determination of visual acuity, as well as diagnosis of the disease – such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, etc., which may be the cause of impaired vision.

  • Determining a suitable Low Vision tool - Individual consultation at an optical center “Friends“ to determine the most appropriate specific optical means that can help in the particular case

  • Training for the use of the means - After issuing the corresponding means, instructions for its use and maintenance are also received. Under specific conditions of use, individual instructions and training are given.

Our main goal is to benefit visually impaired people and try to make their lives more independent by improving the quality of their vision.

Technology has improved the quality of life for many visually impaired people. Solutions may include special glasses, custom-fitted optics, magnifiers, tints, filters or electronic systems. Here is brief information about a small part of the funds we offer and which can help in this direction:

  • Bioptic telescopic glasses – are used to aid long-distance vision. They can be used on the move and facilitate the recognition of faces, signs, vehicle numbers, etc.

  • Glasses with medical filter – these filter glasses provide people with impaired vision better contrast and better vision comfort. This leads to greater safety during movement and easier determination of the contours of various objects, such as curbs, buildings, moving objects, etc.

  • Magnifying prism glasses – enable reading from a closer distance, using both eyes at the same time, reducing the strain on the eye muscles.

  • Portable electronic magnifiers – make it possible to read all kinds of texts, newspapers, labels, menus, etc. by simply placing the electronic magnifier over the text. It can be adjusted in a wide range, both the magnification and the color contrast of the text. Wide field of view and comfortable distance from the magnifier.

  • Telescopic glasses – enable better vision when viewing objects at a distance, such as the TV, and this can also be combined when working with objects at a closer distance – computer, text for reading printed material, etc.

  • Auto-focusing telescope – the world's first optical system providing high magnification and a consistently clear image. This telescope is attached to the glasses and focuses automatically at different distances thanks to the built-in focus controller

  • Prismatic filter glasses – in addition to containing a special medical filter for the specific disease, they also provide a certain magnifying effect, as well as a shift of the image on a certain part of the macula to ensure better vision

  • Glasses with a built-in camera – enable people with impaired vision to read text, recognize faces of close people, determine the color of a garment or other object. Innovative technology leading to the improvement of the quality of life of people with Low Vision.
